Jean Barclay is a freelance consultant, trustee and interim manager with 20 years experience in the UK voluntary sector.

Jean has a multi-disciplinary background covering most aspects of organisational governance and management including in particular: business planning, strategy development, service development and marketing, research, monitoring and evaluation and risk management. She has been working on a freelance basis since 1999 and recent clients have included British Red Cross, Shelter, NCVO, NESTA, Macmillan Cancer Relief, Futurebuilders, Crossroads and Capacitybuilders.

Jean is a Visiting Fellow at London South Bank University and an associate of the Centre for Charity Effectiveness at CASS Business School. She is also currently Chair of Charities Evaluation Services (CES).

As in interim manager, Jean has been Director of Operations at the Refugee Council, Strategic Director for Thames Gateway at Groundwork UK and Director of the Long-term Medical Conditions Alliance.

Jean has an MSc in Charity Finance and Management from South Bank University (awarded with distinction) and a BSc (Hons) in Economics from Bristol University. Prior to going freelance she worked in planning and finance roles at the RNIB, RNID and NSPCC. Before entering the voluntary sector she worked in quality assurance at NEXT plc.

As well as undertaking projects on a solo basis, some of Jean's work is carried out in association with one or more other freelance consultants including: Margaret Bolton, Meg Abdy, Janice Needham, Linda Mitchell, Helen Bush, Bridget Pettitt, Jane Cooper and Ros Oakley..
